climate & weather
Alaska is subject to variable weather. It can change very quickly from warm and sunny to chilly and wet. Average temperatures range from 43-57 degrees in September

Seattle, WA

The Emerald City combines spectacular natural beauty and cosmopolitan flair like few places can. An outdoor and coffee mecca, Seattle also offers up some of the best seafood anywhere along the Pacific Rim. Named after the great chief of the Suquamish Indians, Seattle enjoys a fusion of American, Asian and Native American cultures you won't likely find anywhere else.

  Adventure Hike Juneau, Alaska
Get a taste of both cosmopolitan and frontier styles when you tour the capital of Alaska. Nature walks, sport fishing and scenic bike rides await you in this stunning city. Meander through original shops or marvel at Mendenhall Glacier, just outside of town.

Hubbard Glacier

This natural ice queen rises 300-400 feet upward to hold court over Disenchantment Bay. The glowing blueness scattered over the surface of North America's largest tidewater glacier reveals the telltale signs of active ice. Always on the move, it is perhaps most famous for the 1986 dance step that sealed off the entrance to Russell Fjord, creating an inland lake and stranding marine creatures. Fortunately, the glacier retreated. Constantly crackling and rumbling, ice breaking off the glacier mass makes it seem a live creature giving birth to a court of baby icebergs ranging in size from watermelons to three-story tall buildings.

  Sitka, Alaska
This tranquil fishing village was once part of the expansive Czarist Russian Empire. Gaze over Crescent Bay and catch a glimpse of the onion-domed Russian cathedral from high atop Castle Hill. Visit the Sitka National Historical Park, the very spot where native Tlingits and Russian settlers fought to the bitter end. Ironically, the strife of the past has led to the creation of an eclectic community that reflects its Tlingit, Russian and American roots.

  Ketchikan, Alaska
This southern-most Alaskan port of call is known as "Alaska's First City" because it's the first major community travelers come to as they travel north. Founded as a fishing camp, Ketchikan is built on steep hillsides and is billed as the salmon capital of the world.

Victoria, B.C.

Victoria, British Columbia
The capital of British Columbia is also its largest island. This one-time British colony has retained much of its colonial splendor. Victoria is a seaside enclave that enjoys a temperate climate. Which is great, because you'll want to explore all the museums, parks and golf courses Victoria has to offer.
